As the squad fights through the ruined cities of Aachen, the foggy ambushes of the Hürtgen Forest, and the frozen desperation of the Battle of the Bulge, they lose more and more people. Lieutenant Turner dies while covering a retreat, and Zussman is taken prisoner by the Nazis. Daniels faces Pierson’s troubled past, finds out information about the Remagen Bridge, raids air bases, and storms the empty Berga concentration camp in a terrifying rescue. The story ends with the Allies taking the last bridge over the Rhine, which represents their victory.
