Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Picture yourself driving a cherry-red Infernus down Ocean Drive, with palm trees flying by in front of a pastel sunset and “Billie Jean” playing on the radio. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City takes you to the gritty glamour of Vice City, which is based on Miami in 1986. It gives you a cinematic crime drama and chaotic freedom. For a perfect trip down memory lane, fire it up on your desktop. For on-the-go fun that rivals console thrills, use Winlator on Android.

Scarface-style drama and betrayal run through the story. Ray Liotta voices Tommy Vercetti, an ex-con who gets off the plane after serving 15 years in prison. Liberty City mob boss Sonny Forelli sends him to make a lot of money selling cocaine. Disaster strikes: Haitian gangsters and biker thugs attack the exchange, stealing $100,000 and 20 kilos. Tommy, who is stuck and angry, gets in touch with the sleazy lawyer Ken Rosenberg and then the crew of Admiral Cortez’s yacht. He fights his way to the top, taking over the Malibu Club in a bloody turf war, washing money through the Print Works, and taking over the Print Works. Alliances break down, and loyal “friend” Lance Vance has dark secrets that lead to an explosive fight at Vercetti Estate. Tommy’s journey from a desperate outsider to an untouchable kingpin is an unforgettable rise-and-fall story that includes revenge, excess, and 80s excess.

You can do whatever you want on the beaches, swamps, and skyscrapers of Vice City. Take on more than 60 story missions that mix high-speed chases, shootouts, and heists, such as storming a mall in a rampage or killing enemies from a helicopter. There are more than 120 vehicles to choose from, including fast PCJ-600 motorcycles, armored Infernus supercars, Stinger sports coupes, and weaponized RC Barons. Use two Uzis or M4s in close combat, go on rampages to get extra weapons, and find 100 hidden packages to unlock more firepower. Side hustles add replay: deliver pizzas on BMX bikes, be a vigilante cop and beat up criminals, or make money by driving people around in taxis. Buy 10 or more assets, such as the Boatyard or Cherry Popper Ice Cream, to make money without having to do anything. Nine radio stations play songs from Hall & Oates to Michael Jackson that define the era, and they go perfectly with joyrides. When your wanted level hits six stars, spike strips, SWAT teams, and Hunter jets show up. You can get away by going through alleys, Pay ’n’ Spray garages, or doing barrel rolls in the air. Customization is great: you can change clothes at Wardrobe and cars at garages. No multiplayer, but the depth of the single-player mode means you can play for hours. Change the draw distance on your PC for wide views. With Winlator, you can take your controls anywhere and still have smooth action.

Police chases turn into shows, with cruisers ramming, helicopters searching, and roadblocks testing drifts. Things that can be broken and environments that can be destroyed make things more chaotic, while heavy traffic requires accuracy.

System Specifications

For minimal graphics on a desktop, you need an NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX or an ATI Radeon 7500 (32MB VRAM). For your desktop, we recommend the NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti or the ATI Radeon 9700 (64MB+ VRAM). Intel Pentium III 800 MHz or AMD Athlon 800 MHz is the least powerful processor for a desktop. Intel Pentium 4 1.5 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 2000+ is the best processor for a desktop. For Winlator, the minimum processor for Android is the Snapdragon 720G or MediaTek Helio G99 (25–30 FPS stable). For smooth 40–60 FPS, the Snapdragon 888 or MediaTek Dimensity 1200+ are the best Android processors.
